Case Study: Creating A Dedicated Temperature-Controlled Area at Eurotunnel

 Working alongside VPro, we designed and installed a bespoke tension wall to create a dedicated temperature-controlled area within a bonded warehouse for one of their clients in Folkestone. The client required an enclosed space that would maintain a minimum temperature of 10°C while still allowing forklifts, personnel, and materials to move freely between areas. Our custom-built solution delivered the required environmental control without the cost, disruption, or downtime associated with traditional building work.  

The Challenge

The client's large, open warehouse made it difficult to maintain a consistent temperature in the areas where it mattered most. Heating the entire building was both inefficient and costly, leading to unnecessary energy consumption. As a busy operational facility, the warehouse also needed unrestricted access for both people and vehicles throughout the working day. Any solution had to improve temperature control without interrupting operations or reducing accessibility.

The Goal

 The goal was to construct a permanent, temperature-controlled enclosure within the warehouse that would maintain a minimum internal temperature of 10°C. Additionally, it was essential for the enclosure to blend seamlessly with the existing workspace. The client also required safe and convenient access for staff and forklifts, ensuring that the enclosure's thermal performance would not be compromised.  

The Solution: A Warehouse Partitioning System With A Personnel Access Door 

We designed and installed a bespoke tension wall system tailored to the warehouse's layout and operational requirements. The partition created a fully enclosed, temperature-controlled zone while making the most of the existing space.

To ensure smooth day-to-day operation, the installation included a pedestrian access door, allowing staff to enter and exit the enclosure quickly without opening the larger vehicle access points. This helped minimise heat loss, maintain the required internal temperature, and improve energy efficiency. The design also allowed forklifts and materials to move in and out of the enclosed area with minimal disruption to warehouse operations.

The Outcome

The completed installation provided VPro's client with a reliable, energy-efficient, temperature-controlled environment that meets their operational requirements. By containing conditioned air within the enclosed space, the tension wall helps maintain a consistent minimum temperature while reducing the energy required to heat the area. The addition of a dedicated pedestrian access door makes everyday movement more efficient, reducing unnecessary heat loss and improving workflow for warehouse staff. The finished solution delivers a cleaner, more organised workspace while providing the flexibility and durability needed to support the client's long-term operational needs.
